The US Justice Department litigates top FIFA officials on corruption allegations

14 Fifa officials arrested over bribery and corruption allegations, and the US Justice Department say figures are around $150 million

Following the raiding of the FIFA CONCACAF headquarters by FBI officials, the US Justice Department have filed a 47 counts corruption charges against 14 top officials of the world’s football governing body.

The Department of Justice stated that the corruption at FIFA includes cases of bribery linked to Brazil’s national team and its contract with a U.S. sportswear company reported to be Nike.

There have a lot of questions concerning the awarding of the 2022 World Cup hosting rights to Qatar ahead of countries like Australia and the USA. According to Loretta Lynch, the US Attorney General, the bidding process for the Brazil 2014 World Cup was corrupt, and biddings for hosting and sponsoring previous and the next two World Cups, have all also been marred by similar practices.

“Two generation of FIFA officials including the then presidents of two regional confederations under FIFA, used their positions of trust within their selective organizations to solicit bribes from sports marketers, in exchange for the commercial rights to their Soccer tournaments” she said.

These recent developments in FIFA have led to the perpetual banning of the CONCACAF president Jack Warner, as well as the ruling by the FIFA Ethics Committee to suspend the FIFA president Sepp Blatter. A new FIFA presidential election is to be held on the 26th of February 2016.

Prince Ea identifies forest preservation as best way of stopping global warming

For the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, spoken word artist Prince Ea dropped an online video titled “Dear Future Generations: Sorry” to stimulate individuals into taking immediate action to stop climate change by Standing for Trees.

The outspoken activist starts off by taking stating that our extensive habitat demolition (killing off approximately half of all wild animals in the last 5 decades) is threatening to wipe out most life on this planet in the geological blink of an eye.

Voicing his disappointment on how the current generation has destroyed wildlife and trees, hence tampering with the wellbeing of the future generation, the St. Louis, Missouri born artist stated “it brings me great sorrow that most of us today, don’t care about tomorrow” he said in his video.

Speaking in support of this view, Monash South African third year Environmental philosophy student, Uzoukwu Chimezie upheld Ea’s views, while also calling for more rigorous policies in other to tackle this.

“If we look at the rate we are going, you will see that most species will all be extinct before the next 10 decades. We need to see the need to uphold the various non human philosophies, and realize that we owe the future generation a duty to preserve these species, as human life also depends on them” he concluded.

Prince Ea was caused to make the video by the Stand for Trees campaign, a new way for individuals to take actions to protect threatened forests and help ease global climate change.

Nicolene Murdoch addresses the Laurratte, Monash Merger and the positive impacts this will have on the university itself and the students.

on the 18th of August 2013 Nicolene Murdoch who is currently an assurance manager at Monash south Africa opened up to journalism students about the merger that most students have been questioning and wondering about. Nicolene has had an experience with Lauratte and has assured the students that in her dealings with them they were very helpful and gave her opportunities that she could only have dreamed of; Nicolene goes on to assure students that this merger will not only make sure that they have a variety of new programmes but also the university facilities will improve and the students will be able to join the other 72 universities in the lauratte network and have many more opportunities than just education. Monash South Africa students will be able to branch out into professions that some universities do not provide in South Africa.

The pro-vice chancellor spoke with the students for about 30 minutes and took unanswered questions that many students might have. The video will probably be able to explain and answer why Monash South Africa decided to make this bold move.
